My Brain lied!

I forgot to add this yesterday. Sunday night I stayed up too late playing a video game (Dragon Quest VIII) getting to a make it or break it spot. Anyway, I kept having the strangest dream. I work for a claim processing company, so we do lots of claims and they go through our system. Well for some reason claims kept stopping and the "claim stopped" alarm went off, meaning I had to spring into action to get them going again. Well the "spring into action" really meant I had to press a button to get them going again. When I finally awoke, I saw that I had easily overslept, because I kept hitting the snooze button.

I don't know that's kinda funny to me.

A horrible friend

I missed Hez's b-day party and I feel bad about that. I felt icky all day Friday and a part of Saturday. Thanksgiving was good, I spent it with Kari's family (both sides) and one side definitely puts on a better spread, especially in terms of desert! So Thursday went well, and I woke up Friday feeling just awful, just ended up in bed drinking gallons (probably not an exaggeration) of water. Saturday came and it was a lazy day. Kari stopped by later that day and brought me food, that was the bees knees. Sunday was more of the same. Pretty boring to read about my weekend, but it's what I needed Wednesday had me a little stressed out (especially being oncall). I only got two more calls over the weekend and both were easily remedied. Well, I got to get ahead in work this week, so I don't have to worry about my trip to Vegas coming up.

Sorry to all about being a poop. Hope you all had a great weekend!

From Bad to Good

My friend from highschool came into town last week. He's starting his USA wide tour in search of residency. No, he's not apartment shopping, but looking for a hospital to take him in, put him to work, and still charge him for education. I dropped him off at the airport a little after midnight on Thursday. So, when I got home from work on Friday I was a little sleepy. What should have been a short hour and a half nap turned into a four hour napfest. I completely missed good times and volleyball on Friday night. Saturday was pretty quiet, just futzed around the house, kinda boring with no internet yet. Saturday night a pirate washed up on my shore and I had to let her in, she brought a gift of icecream! Sunday was lazy too, although I got some mushroom jack fajitas (from Chili's) for lunch and then saw Harry Potter. Harry Potter was good, and I'd be willing to see it again if people still want to go. It's kinda weird how fanatical people get about it. Thursday night, to kill time, Brandon and I went to see the 9:50 showing of The Weather Man. At 9:40 people were lined up outside in the cold for the midnight showing of Harry Potter. Maybe it's just me, but two hours in the cold for the movie just doesn't seem worth it. Right now I can't think of any movie (new or potential sequel) that would make me stand outside in the cold for two hours. In case you were curious The Weather Man was a good movie, Nick Cage was in good form (think Leaving Las Vegas) and less shoddy (think Gone in 60 Seconds). Although overall the movie isn't quite a cheerful one, but still well done.

And that kind of brings us here. I have decided this morning that if the internet problem hasn't been resolved by today when I get home, Charter is getting a call to schedule a hookup. While Charter hasn't given us 100% service all the time, they've never left me hanging for more than a day and here with TDS we are on the 5th day. Can you tell this bothers me? Mostly because I'm "oncall" at work, meaning if I get a call at 4 AM, I have to either sign on from home, or drive into work. Guess which I'd prefer. I've heard legend that work has some magical PC that connects from anywhere and can be checked out for oncall people, so I'm also going to have to investigate that in case TDS fails me and Charter is busy on the install side.

Well, I should probably start my work week, but I just wanted to drop a line and let people know I'm still here. The good news is it's only a 3 day work week!!! Come get some!

Gah

guh, don't get me started! Wednesday, I come home to no internet, modem's weirding out. So, no problem, they sent us a badass modem when we thought the last one was broke. This is apparently TDS Metrocom's solution to connection issues, just keep sending crappy modems. So, I plug this bad boy in and all the lights light up and boom, it looks like I'm in buisness. Oh wait, the modem they sent us is for a higher speed service which means it can't connect to the box that we're supposed to get our internet out of. So, I call customer service to see how fast they could switch us over to the newer box for the modem that works, they say, "7-10 business days." So, they are sending us another old, crappy modem (this would be the 3rd to my knowledge) in a "couple of days." Until that comes in, it looks like I'm SOL for teh internet, which I've grown quite accustom to.

Sorry to rant......just pisses me off that TDS's solution to all modem troubles are:

1) Restart everything (I'm ok with this, as it's the end all be all solution)
2) Send a new modem

It's like they're admitting that they have really crappy modems, but hey, they've got a lot of them and maybe one will work, for a period of time anyway.

Screw this, this will be my last interaction with TDS, nothing wrong with the people there, just their policies.

On a happier note, I got 17/20, but should have gotten 19/20

An e-mail to Mark....

We are off for Vegas on the evening of Dec 8th (thursday). You'll definitely want to plan this at least the weekend before or sooner. Not sure if Russ would be able to attend though. From talking with him last night it sounds like his new job starts on Dec 12th (that Monday). As for new years, Kari and I will still be in Oregon. We fly back on the 1st, we leave on the 23rd of Dec.

Things are crazy busy, had a bad day last week, where I flooked something up, in reality it was that bad, but if circumstances had been different it could have been pretty bad. This week is just busy, have to get a project coded (pretty much done, specs keep changing) and approved by tomorrow night. The big catch on this is that a Sr. VP is interested in this project so it has to be perfect. Probably going to have to stay a little late tonight awaiting what to do as this has to get done.

other than that, not too much going on. Vegas 2nd weekend in Dec, Christmas coming up. I've got to be "oncall" for work starting tomorrow for the next two weeks, so when shit hits the fan, my phone will ring. Although I've heard that last Thanksgiving was quiet, which is just fine with me. Oooh, my friend Brandon from Oregon is going to be here Thursday evening for parts of it. Not sure what his exact schedule is, he's interviewing with medical schools for residency or something doctor related. It sounded like he'd be here late Thursday and leaving early Friday

And that's the news with Riz, probably could have turned this into a blog entry and share with the world...........and I did

About time

Well, it's about time I updated this thing. Sorry I haven't been around as much as I should have. It's been pretty busy here at work, and for some reason I can't seem to sign onto this from home. I don't remember when I last updated, let alone what's happened in that time period, so I'll go with what I know.

Little Ceasar's freakin' rules. It's been a long while (Oregon days) since I've last had it. To be honest I didn't remember liking it so much, but Friday I had quite a few pieces of crazy bread from the night of fun and games at Marks. I capitalized on their grand opening deal of ready to go large pepperoni ($5) and crazy bread ($2) yesterday and that was pretty freakin' sweet.

Saw II was pretty good. I went to see the 9:50 showing last night (hence a little late into work today). Normally I'm not such a blood and gore fan, but Saw was a pretty good flick (minus the blood and such). It was certainly a nice take on the "horror" genre.

Hmm.....didn't do much else this weekend, laundry which was much needed and I slept a lot. Friday night I was up until 2 am, but then didn't get out of bed until 5 pm. I just read a lot and slept, don't know what's up with all this sleeping. I didn't get to see Kari this weekend and that sucks. She's gone this week, so we're making plans for this weekend, not sure what yet, but as long as I get to see her it will be all good.

I think, for those interested, we should plan to see the Harry Potter movie, it's going to be a good movie. Too bad there's 3 more to wait for and 1 book to complete this series, although I have a hard time believing it'll stop there. For the sake of it being a classic I think it should stop after the seventh book, but the cash cow this thing is, it'll keep going until J.K. Rowling get's tired of money.

Well, I really should get back to work, it looks like I've got another busy week this week. I've got about 4 or 5 projects that need to be coded and tested by Friday, let's hope none of them are too bad.

I'll see you around!
